Description

Rosa Castillo (1910-1989) was a sculptor whose work was characterized by indigenous themes, representations of children’s groups, the female nude, motherhood and local customs and manners.

Rosa was an assistant in the workshop of Francisco Zúñiga, where she learned to draw and the process of sculpture in depth.  She was also student of Luis Ortiz Monasterio and of Jose L. Ruiz. Later, she enrolled in La Esmerada (Mexico’s leading art school) and upon graduation she began working there as an art teacher, teaching for almost 20 years.
